Measurement Form for Mains

Mast Head Rig Fractional Rig

 

Max Luff - Fully hoist tape on your main halyard until it stops. Measure straight down to top of boom pulling tape tight.

Leech - (Set boom at 90 degrees to mast or if you need to clear a bimini or dodger set the height of the boom so that it clears) With the halyard at max hoist and the boom set at height measure to the top of the boom with the outhaul car in max aft setting.

Max Foot - Mainsail maximun foot length is measured from the aft face of the mast to the tightest/longest outhaul setting (max aft). If the boom has a black band, measure to the inside of the band.

Backstay - Aft face of the mast along the top of the boom to the backstay. This is a horizontal measurement at boom level.

A- Aft face of mast to bearing point of tack fitting. 

B- Top of boom to bearing point of tack fitting

C- Aft face of mast to bearing point of reef hook.

E - Top of the luff groove or track to top of boom

F - From back of the mast to reefing block or padeye

Out haul car?  Yes   No

X - If outhaul car:  From bearing point of the pin on outhaul car to the top of the boom

Z - Width of shackle jaw or clew attachment mechanism
