Rick McBride. Rick began sailing in Ontario sometime in 1955. In 1961 he moved to the West Coast and spent time teaching sailing at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Rick developed an interest in sails and in 1972 he started work at Miller Sails in Vancouver. In 1974 he was hired to help start up the new North Sails Canada Loft in Toronto. After a year, Rick was sent back to the West Coast to open up the North Sails Spinnaker Loft in Vancouver. Rick left North and started up Leitch and McBride Sails in Sidney B.C. in December of 1976. Over time Rick has compiled an impressive racing resume which includes; placing in the T-Bird Worlds, Regionals and Fleet Championships along with 5 Cal 20 National Championships. In 1976 Rick won the US National Flying Dutchman Championships. He has placed as skipper at the Royals Regatta Match Racing in Montreal and Victoria. An avid cruising sailor Rick and Wendy have traveled over 30,000 miles sailing the West Coast. |
